Fisher Centres CHEO’s First Line

CHEO announced on April 21st the addition of some major star power to the BIG STEPS campaign. Mike Fisher of the Ottawa Senators joins fellow Honourary Ambassador Max Keeping and Chair Charles Ofori-Attah as the power forwards of the volunteer campaign front line.

Mike has taken a personal interest in CHEO and believes that the funds raised through the BIG STEPS campaign will help attract the best research minds, physicians and health care providers to CHEO and equip them with the advanced tools and technologies to give the children and youth the very best in leading-edge treatments..

Mike made his first visit to CHEO in December of 1999, when as a rookie with the Senators, he attended the players Christmas visit to the hospital. He may have been a rookie who was encouraged to sing along to “Jingle Bells”, but what left an impact on Mike was seeing how the players presence at the hospital made the children smile. From that day forward he has had a growing interest in helping the institutions that care for the children and youth of our community and has given generously of his time to raise help raise awareness and encourage more smiling faces.

“When I visit CHEO I see the difference that the amazing care provided can make in a child’s life. CHEO affects us all. Even if you don’t have kids, you probably have friends who do or you have nieces or nephews, and it’s just so important that our kids are looked after and cared for. That’s why I am supporting the BIG STEPS Campaign. The kids deserve the best treatment possible so I would like to encourage people to be generous knowing that their support is going to a great cause and will make a difference in the life of a child,” said Mike.

Fred Bartlett, CEO and President of the CHEO Foundation said “The BIG STEPS Campaign is an incredibly important initiative that will help the hospital make strategic investments in research, equipment and technology. We have just surpassed the $15 million mark and the goal is in sight with less than $10 million left to raise. We are thrilled to have Mike on board as Honourary Ambassador of the campaign. Over the years we have watched Mike’s dedication to children and youth continue to grow. His involvement in the BIG STEPS Campaign is a natural next step in this growth.”

The CHEO kids have a place in the heart of Mike Fisher and CHEO is thrilled to have #12 join their campaign team!
