CHEO Launches $25 Million Research Campaign
While the CHEO Foundation engages in numerous fundraising activities throughout the year, the $25 million BIG STEPS Campaign is something quite different. It is part of an ambitious vision for CHEO to attract the best research minds, physicians and health care providers and equip them with advanced tools and technologies needed to care for and cure our kids and it is in addition to our annual contributions to CHEO.
It’s an exciting time at the hospital with the recent opening of the new Garry Cardiff wing, housing an expanded Emergency department, two Critical care units and a Medical day unit. Now the focus turns to what goes on inside the building. This is where the $25 million BIG STEPS Campaign takes a giant step forward by raising money for two areas - advancing research and improving equipment.
Each of these areas encompasses four key pillars. The research component of the campaign will focus on Clinical, Pediatric Cancer, Childhood Obesity and Mental Health research and build on CHEO’s recognition as a centre of world-leading research into childhood diseases. The equipment component of the campaign will focus on bringing new technologies to CHEO and upgrading existing equipment in the areas of Emergency & Critical Care, Surgical Equipment, Diagnostic Imaging and Information Technology. You can read more about the role of research at CHEO and the hospital’s critical need for equipment in this newsletter.
We have made a great start on the campaign thanks in part to the generosity of physicians and staff who participated this past spring in the staff campaign and raised over $1.7 million. We are thrilled to announce that to date, the campaign has raised over $10 million towards our goal of $25 million.
It takes a dedicated group of volunteers to achieve such success, and in this newsletter you can meet the leader of the campaign taskforce, Charles Ofori-Attah. Charles is a former CHEO patient and a dynamic young man who is leading a group of talented volunteers in our fundraising efforts. You will meet the rest of the taskforce in this newsletter over the next few months.
This is the first edition of the BIG STEPS e-newsletter and we would love your feedback. I encourage you to forward it on to your family, friends and colleagues who would be interested in learning about the BIG STEPS happening at CHEO.
Thank you for your generous support of the campaign, which will directly benefit not only patients under CHEO’s care, but children and youth everywhere.
Stay tuned for further updates!
